Tadiyampad: Idukki MP Dean Kuriakose informed that the construction of the Thadiyampad bridge across Periyar river as part of Adimali-Kumali National Highway 185 will be completed in December. The Thadiyampad Bridge is a crucial project in improving the transport facilities in Idukki district.

The bridge is being constructed under the 'Setu Bandhan' scheme of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. The central government has allocated Rs 32 crore for the project. The tender amount for construction is about Rs 24.27 crore.

The new bridge is 223 metres long and 12 metres wide. Turing will be carried out at a width of seven metres for vehicular traffic. One metre wide pavements are also being constructed on both sides of the bridge. The bridge starts from the land owned by Vazhathop panchayat and ends in front of Thadiyampad Fathima Matha Church.

When the shutters of Cheruthoni dam in Idukki were opened, it was customary for Thadiyampad to be submerged under the current Chapath water. This disrupted traffic on the route and caused great inconvenience to the locals and commuters.

With the construction of the new high-altitude bridge, the traffic congestion in the area is expected to be resolved even as the water in the dam is released.
