Idukki MP Dean Kuriakose expressed hope that a new notification regarding the development of the national highway from Adimali to Kumily will be issued soon. The MP said further action is expected to be taken with the final approval of the Standing Finance Committee.

The new notification of the nearly 80 km long Adimali-Kumali National Highway Project is now awaited. As per the revised alignment, the 18 metre wide track has been approved. The MP said that the final approval of the Finance Committee is expected this week and further action can be expedited if the approval is granted.

The plan was to build a road in a ‘two lane with paved shoulder‘ manner by acquiring land 30 metres wide earlier for national highway development. However, further action on the project is being taken as per the currently approved alignment.

The prolonged national highway development has led to protests in various areas of Idukki. Locals and commuters are worried about the delay in the construction of the project, which is crucial for the district's transport development and tourism sector.

It is expected that with the issuance of the new notification, there will be clarity on the further course of action of the project. It remains to be seen when the final approval and notification will be issued and when the construction work will start.
