Idukki: The RSP Idukki constituency has demanded a joint inspection by the revenue and forest departments to find a permanent solution to the land problems faced by thousands of farmer families in the high range region.
The legal status of the land given as a monopoly to the farmers as part of various government schemes from 1942 to 1960 should be examined. The meeting also demanded that the boundaries of the land and the status of the present revenue-forest lands should be determined through joint inspection.
The records pertaining to the transfer of the encroached lands from the Forest Department to the Revenue Department on October 1, 1956 should be verified and further action should be taken. The meeting also demanded that an official list of lands eligible for patta should be prepared and the process of granting patta to farmers should be expedited.
The allegation that reports of past committees were prepared without considering the difference between Elamala and Elamala Reserve should be examined. The meeting also demanded that the government clarify its concerns about the legality of the existing pattas.
The joint inspection by the Forest and Revenue Departments should be completed and the eligible land should be given a legal title. The meeting also decided to file a petition requesting the Forest Minister to intervene in the matter and convene an urgent meeting with the Revenue Department.
