Thodupuzha: District Collector has directed to examine whether there is a large-scale illegal soil extraction and mining under the guise of public holidays near the landslide zone in Kudayathur and submit an urgent report. The District Collector's immediate intervention comes at a time when massive illegal mining in the region poses a serious threat to the lives and property of local residents.
The District Collector has directed the District Geologist and Thodupuzha Tehsildar to visit the spot and conduct inspection. It has been directed to assess the disaster risk in the area due to mining and submit a report and take stringent legal action in case of excavation and mining without permission.
The District Collector has directed that if any attempt is made to transfer or excavate the land without permission, criminal action should be taken against the persons responsible for the same and the land owner should submit the same to the Disaster Management Authority containing the details of the proceedings.
